get batslapped.
I didn’t like what DC Comics was and is doing when it comes to the world of Batman and the female members of the Bat family post their “semi” reboot of their continuity and comic line (hint, only two of the above girls actually currently exist or are alive in their current canon now. Talk about depressing.)
You know the saying “If you don’t like it then do it yourself?” Well I went and did just that. The Batgirl themed dual fancomic series and animated TV show pitch, Batgirl Incoprorated, illustrated by the amazing Yu Lyn Chen will be launching towards the end of the week this week here on tumblr! Please, if you are cartoon, or superhero inclined please check us out.

sup this is thugg
some doodles while im working on pages
on the right you have some fashionable batgirls or something that ill do a full picture of later to commemorate a certain number of followers
on the left is me reworking poison ivy and harley quinns designs since i dndt like my original version. their designs are more rooted into their inspiration now, with poison ivy going for the whole goddess of nature demeter thing and harley quinn actually looking like a harlequin
Examples of amazing artwork by thugg, the main character designer and storyline artist of Batgirl Incorporated, an upcoming collaborative fancomic series intended to serve as an animated TV show pitch (when anthologized) on which I serve as head writer and helm to the project (though I am nothing without my artists).
The idea came into fruition this past June as a personal response to the fact that DC Comic’s record on having an animated TV show with female leads and a predominantly female cast is sorely behind. No one should ever question the possible popularity of a female lead superhero cartoon with all audiences after the longstanding success of The Powerpuff Girls.Their new DC Nation shorts such Super Best Friends Forever, Amethyst, and Thunder & Lightning shorts show promise they are headed in the right direction, but the need is still there.
The project was additionally born out of personal ire towards DC’s continued insistence to fracture the sensitive Batgirl mantle fanbase between three characters in regular canon (including displays of particular favoritism, eschewing one for another or one for two but never all three together) which is in my opinion a poor choice when there are ways to showcase and have all three - at once without slighting any. I feel their trio dynamic is ripe with possible stories and would translate to TV very well. Set in it’s own alternate continuity (like Young Justice) we hope to really provide a fresh and interesting take on the Bat family.
We also will be posting mini-comics and other oneshot pages of the Batgirls and other Batfamily members in either traditional or new alternative takes via guest artist collaboration as an initiative to serve as a collaborative creative outlet.
“Chapter One” or our “Pilot Episode” is fully written, thumbnailed and is currently being drawn by thugg. “Chapter Two” is currently being written.
I have lots of fun collaborative efforts and mini-comics in the wings (and being penned) with amazing people with wonderful talents that I hope everyone will really enjoy so please check us out and stay tuned for updates.

heey its thugg again aka anklewings. in case you guys dont know, im one of the artists on this project and im just throwing up some doodles i have for these ladies designs.
on the left is barbara gordon of whom i based mostly off of her btas appearance, with body shape from sbff. and on the right are just doodles.
i have a lot more sketches ill upload soon.
Amazing sketches of the three Batgirls from thugg aka anklewings, one of the main artists on Batgirl Incorporated, my upcoming collaborative fancomic project that will be posted here on tumblr. We are still accepting concept art (character sheet here) and openly invite all comic fans to submit art or feel free to contact us with inquiries or if you have any general questions or comments. The goal is to utilize varying art styles and even mediums according to comic with an underlying “main” look or character standard (See Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt for an animated example of such style hopping) threading them loosely together. That way multiple artists can contribute in rotation, not unlike a real comic-book series. The goal is not only to help aspiring comic artists fill their portfolio and practice but the whole project additionally serves as a rough concept pitch for an animated series, something I feel could be very popular for DC and for girls. Please submit or send us message if you want to get involved and follow for more art updates!

BATGIRL INC IS A GO GO
Excuse the bare-bones we’re in the midst of construction but the page for my upcoming Batgirl Incorporated fancomic is officially up.
I’m currently posting as well request concept art submissions to help decide character standards, backgrounds, villains, and overall aesthetics. After all the goal is to also help artists here on tumblr wanting to get into comics who are fans of the Batgirls and to fill their portfolio and or flex layout muscle, practice on a deadline or just hone their skills. The process is very collaborative, I enjoy lots of discourse and talking about ideas and concepts.
Please submit! Your design may get incorporated into the final product or even get offered to do some pages once things are settled! The goal is to have rotating artists and or combine artists together; as in one will draw the heroes while another lends their style to the villain. And so on. Colorists are welcome to contact too if one wants to participate. I really want this to be sharp and exciting and rival actual comics being sold in stores so bring your best work!
Current contributors and collaborators in the preliminary period so far include the wonderful, amazing Anklewings who I hope you’ll meet soon and my good friend Liz. Enthusiastically waiting any submissions or messages of interest from those who want to help, whether its been people I’ve talked to already or haven’t heard from yet please send us stuff or send us a message!

Planning a Batgirls webcomic: PLEASE HELP

I am extremely disappointed in DC Comics in how they’ve handled the Batgirl mantle and what they’ve done to Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain, especially in the reboot with the gutting of character growth and strong female relationships in exchange for a shaky and entirely unremarkable “new” Barbara Gordon Batgirl. Also an offense is their clear absolute refusal to try to appeal to the young adult demographic, especially girls.
And while they’ve improved in some respects as to tapping into certain demographic, their usage of animation, the success of Young Justice and the Green Lantern Corps animated series on the new DC Nation block show a step in the right direction but I need more.
All-together it’s driven me crazy to the point where an idea sprung in my head with a pretty clear vision and now I want to make something that can show how equally awesome all three(ish ohohoho) Batgirls are in a zany, colorful, and fun self contained canon that draws upon past stories and concepts and presents them in a new fashion, much like what they’ve done with Young Justice.
The comic/series, which I’ve considered calling Batgirl Inc. that I’d want to write would be more at it’s heart a pitch for a cartoon series in comic form, that would have all three Batgirls as a team fighting crime in Gotham, all around the same age (more or less teenage) in a series inspired by Charlie’s Angels and Powerpuff Girls co-starring Tim Drake-Wayne as their tech guy and “Alfred” alongside Barbara’s sentient AI computer; Oracle. Batwoman, Huntress, Flamebird and Misfit would also be featured. The goal is to have an almost all female cast care for perhaps the cameo of Nightwing and Damian Robin.

Can I complain about the coloring in the new Batgirl series? I’m pretty tough on this book in general and it’s inching its way to getting better and while many criticize the writing or are dismayed at how slow it’s taken a rebooted Barbara Gordon to buck up, I’ve always been distracted by the coloring…the coloring since issue one has been pretty strange. I am astounded how “putty” the skintones are, just using dodge/lighter and darker tones in the same color palette for shadows and whatnot, which I’m pretty sure is an art theory sin. Barbara Gordon and her mother look like wood glue. Faces are actually quite colorful. Noses are actually on fair people quite ruddy, eyelids have purple/blue tinges as do places in the lower face on most people of many skintypes. The absence of any blush or redness in Barbara and her mother’s cheeks is astounding considering they are these redheaded “peaches and cream” types of people who do or should be portrayed as ALWAYS having pink to their cheeks. I mean come on; redheads!
It’s sort of astounding that between three people on colorist credits, Vicente Cifuentes, Ardian Syaf, and Ulises Areeola Palomera not one has realized the lack of actual…blood beneath their heroine’s skin. Or perhaps they are too distracted throwing around the bizarre blue, teal, and purple light blooms that saturate this book.
I tried editing some of the colors. I’ve been experimenting with skintones so no means an expert but in order to better my coloring skills I thought I’d try fixing what I saw was a problem with stuff as well as color in existing lineart. I think half of the problem is that the base skintone is technically wrong for both Barbara and her mother to begin with. Original on the left, my edit on the right.
